Over the course of my career I’ve grown to learn that milestones really do matter.
Whether it’s birthdays and anniversaries, accomplishments or accolades, life is too short not to slow down and celebrate the victories, however big or small they may be.
It’s these moments of self reflection, shared with those closest to us, that can make the hard work worth it; reminding us of not just what we’ve accomplished, but why.
And I’ve been truly lucky that my life has been full of such milestones lately. In the past few months, I’ve celebrated my second wedding anniversary, observed Kanahoma’s 1 Year Anniversary, and we just wrapped up our first full year in business.
But today, it’s safe to say, is a milestone that really takes the cake…
Happy Birthday Lola J
Today is my daughter Lola’s first birthday.
Born in the pandemic, just two months after I founded Kanahoma, Lola’s first year has been a wild one.
Juggling a new business while learning to be a Father has been the most rewarding, humbling, and challenging experience of my life.
Lola has taught me about love, about patience, and has helped me see an old world in a whole new way.
It’s been a crazy, wild year, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Work Life Blend, Not Balance
And today, as we celebrate Lola’s birthday, I’m reminded of what a blessing it has been to be able to bring my whole self to work.
For much of my career I felt the need to put on a face and maintain some modicum of reservation, but in founding Kanahoma, and through the friendship and support of so many of you, that’s melted away over the past year.
The fact that I can write this newsletter, not about education, or about marketing, but about my daughter, is something I’m truly grateful for.
To The Milestones You’re Making
So as we celebrate our own milestone at the Odell household, I want you to know I’m here and rooting for you and yours. Whether it’s personal or professional, whatever you’re working for, I’m here for it and ready to celebrate when you get there.
After all, as Oprah likes to say…
“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate”
