Who's ready for a flashback?
14 years ago today I launched HigherEdLive.
It was the industry's first - and only - live weekly web show network.
Each week, I'd bring on a new guest and host a 1-hour interactive interview, taking questions in real-time from Twitter.
While that's an easy feat technologically today, at the time I had to use five separate softwares just to stitch together a solution that would work.
I ran the business for two years, growing from one show into a network of higher ed-related content, before selling it to mStoner (now Carnegie), thanks to some help from Mallory Willsea.
Beyond being an incredible professional experience, that chapter of my career proved to be deeply valuable to me personally as well.
In fact, there are SO many of you whom I consider personal friends today that I can trace back our friendship to the early days of Higher Ed Live.
That business got me out of debt, introduced me to a community of incredible people, and propelled my career, in more ways than one.
So who remembers? Who was there in that golden 2010 - 2012 era, when social was still social and everything felt electric and eclectic online?
The more time passes, the more I realize that truly was a special time and place.

This is the anniversary of my Seth fandom. It endures today. ♥️ You were so gracious many times over in having me on to preach the gospel of e-expectations which, in turn, helped me grow the little digital marketing and Web development business at Noel-Levitz. Thank you for evoking the memory of the sweet times. I treasure our friendship and look to you as a lighthouse for our community.
I learned so much from every episode, and following guests on social media. Your recollection of when social was social hits home. Thanks again to you and the whole team of Higher Ed Live hosts 🙌
