I was having my bi-weekly call with my personal coach yesterday and decided to use the time to open up about a project that was giving me some unexpected anxiety.
In chatting through it, we realized it wasn't the project that was giving me stress, but the fact that I wasn't prepared.
Being unprepared was leaving me feeling uneasy about the work ahead and insecure in my ability to deliver.
So instead of taking time to try and rationalize why I shouldn’t be feeling anxious, I simply carved out a couple hours yesterday afternoon, put in the work to get the project in a good place, and found myself feeling quite prepared.
The result? My anxiety effectively vanished.
After days of stewing and stressing, a few focused hours of preparation was all it took.
So I’ve promised myself, the next time I find myself feeling anxious, before I let myself get too stressed, I'm going to use the below decision tree and simply ask myself - Are you prepared?
Because if I'm not, that's what I need to do.
And if I am, it's probably best just to let it go.
